Privacy Policy
Version 1.1 · Effective October 26, 2026
Who we are
Chordandjoy, a business registered in the Republic of Korea, is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Our business address is in our Terms of Service.
Privacy contact: Customer Support, support@chordandjoy.com
What we collect
- Your email address, which you give at checkout or when you ask for a new download link.
- Order details that Dodo Payments sends us: order number, book, amount, currency, and payment status. We do not receive your full card number or card security code.
- Download records: when a link was used and how many times a book was downloaded.
- Your acknowledgement before the first download that starting the download ends eligibility for a change-of-mind refund: the time, the notice version, and your IP address.
- Technical logs: IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. These are kept for security and to fix problems.
- If you ask for our free PDFs: your email address, whether you used our English or Korean page, when you agreed to the notice and confirmed your age, whether you ticked the box to hear about new books, the website that sent you if the link said so (for example, Instagram), and when each PDF was downloaded. We use your IP address to limit repeated requests and remove it after 1 day.
- Anything you tell us when you email us.
We receive information directly from you, from Dodo Payments, and through technical records generated when you use our website. We do not ask you to create an account or a password.
How we use it
- To deliver your book and send download links.
- To let you download again, and to tell you before we close the store.
- To answer your questions and handle refunds.
- To record your acknowledgement of our download and refund terms and handle related disputes.
- To send the free PDFs you asked for and to limit repeated requests.
- To prevent fraud and the misuse of download links.
- To keep records required by law.
We do not send marketing emails, and we do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. If you tick the box to hear about new books on our free PDF page, we only record the request. We will ask you to confirm by email before we send any news. If you confirm, we use the record of which free PDFs you received to choose news that matches them.
We do not track email opens or link clicks.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for free PDF requests are: sending the PDFs you asked for, to provide what you requested; limiting repeated requests and preventing misuse of download links, our legitimate interest in keeping the service available and secure; and news emails, your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who we share it with
We use service providers for hosting, storage, database services, and email delivery. Dodo Payments acts as the Merchant of Record and processes purchase and payment information under its own privacy policy.
- Dodo Payments — payments, tax, and refunds. Dodo Payments is the Merchant of Record and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Supabase — database for orders, free PDF requests, and download records, and storage for the free PDFs.
- Cloudflare — storage for the book files.
- Resend — sending emails.
We may also disclose information when required by law.
International transfers
We are based in the Republic of Korea, and our service providers may store data in the United States, Korea, or other countries. When you buy from us or ask for our free PDFs, your information is transferred to these places to provide the service.
The European Commission has recognised Korea as providing adequate protection. For transfers from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom to the United States and other countries, we rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses in our service providers' data processing terms. Vercel also takes part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Information needed for re-downloads (your purchase email, order number, the books you bought, and whether the purchase is still valid): while we offer re-downloads for your purchase.
- Order and payment records, including your download acknowledgement: 5 years, as required by Korean e-commerce law. We keep a record longer only while it is needed for an ongoing dispute.
- Records of complaints and disputes, including support emails: 3 years.
- Detailed download records and technical logs: up to 90 days, unless needed to investigate misuse.
- Free PDF requests: we delete your email address 1 year after your last request. If you have confirmed news emails, we keep it while you are subscribed; after you unsubscribe, we stop sending news and delete it 1 year after your last request. The rest of the record (when you asked and when you downloaded) is kept without your email address, so it no longer identifies you.
When personal information is no longer needed and no legal retention requirement applies, we securely delete it using methods designed to prevent recovery.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show, correct, or delete your personal information, to stop processing it, or to withdraw any consent you gave, by emailing support@chordandjoy.com. Someone you authorize may make the request for you. We may need to keep some records where the law requires it. If information needed to verify your purchase and deliver download links is deleted, we may no longer be able to provide re-downloads.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We do not use analytics or advertising cookies. We only use a cookie that remembers whether you chose our English or Korean store, and, when you get our free PDFs, a cookie that holds your download link for 3 days so the link does not appear in the address bar. Because we do not track you across websites, we do not change our practices in response to "Do Not Track" signals.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block our region cookie, your store preference may not be remembered.
Children
Our store is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. A parent or guardian may buy a book for a child. Our free PDF page is for people aged 16 or older.
Security
We use encrypted connections, limit who can access data, and give downloads only through short-lived links after checking your order.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the version and effective date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will tell buyers by email.
